Jean Kilbourne Lecture Video: Killing us Softly

This is a lecture video we watched in the beginning of the quarter. The author of this lecture video is Jean Kilbourne in which she talks about how advertising industry heavily contributes to the beauty and body image of women without necessary realizing it. Kilbourne uses example and statistics to back the informations she is giving out.

I plan to a quote from her: "We are surrounded by advertisement at all times and without realizing it we take it in” She talk about how we take these ads as a guide for women roles. I will use this to talk about how watching these films help the audience develop who they are/ how they act.

J Spot: A Spot Story

This is a google podcast about the Disney Princesses. The two host of the podcast, Jade and Jessica, talk about bout the gender roles, body images, and consent associated with Disney Princess films. They use reference articles and also speak about their personal experience about the topic.

I will include this podcast as a reference in my segment. They mentioned the movie I will be using, so I think it is a great source to use. The podcast will help back the purpose of my segment.

Film Review: The Slowly Improving Gender Politics of Disney's Frozen

“love-at-first-sight bullshit that Disney’s been shoveling for years” and “telling a story where the women are actually in control”

The author, Jason Bailey, wrote a film review about the movie Frozen in 2013 on the Flavorwire website. In the review he talk about Disney's attempt at feminism within the film. He also includes direct quotes from the co-director, Jennifer Lee, and Disney Animation supervisor Lino DiSalvo.

I plan to use this source to support my idea and also include a review about the films and Disney's pattern production. The quote I plan to use is talks about the criticism of Disney fairy tale stories and how Frozen is the beginning into a new gender roles.
